Striped Bass
Striped Bass are available from April through December. This species thrives in the bays and rivers of New York. Our spring fishery is second to none and catching trophy stripers from May thru late June is common practice. MazMan Charters has held the fly rod 20 pound tippet world record striper for the past five years (caught by angler Rick Fink).
Bluefish
Pound for pound nothing can dog you like a blue. These ferocious game fish are always willing to oblige and are available from May through November.
Weakfish
From the beginning of May though mid-June, large tide-runners make the back waters of Raritan Bay their home. These fish can get as large as high teen size and in late summer large schools of weaks invade along the shipping channels of the bay.
False Albacore or Albies
Perhaps my favorite inshore fish. They arrive in late August and can be had through early November. You'll never forget the run of your first albie and once you've been bitten by this speedster, you'll be back for more! Guaranteed!
Other Tunas
Bonita, Skip Jack and Blue Fin all make their annual visit to see New York. These fish can show any time from July to November with mid to late August being peak times. Tunas on fly have become the latest craze for the Northeast flyrodder. They will test your skill and endurance to the fullest. |
